Campus Planning

ECE Building Addition

The Van Leer Building was constructed in 1961 to house the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). There have been numerous minor renovations to selected portions of the building, but the total 162,000 square feet has never been updated.

Consequently, the building is in need of significant modifications to remove hazardous materials, update HVAC and electrical systems, improve IT systems, improve life safety conditions and generally modernize. Additionally, ECE faculty and research activities have outgrown the Van Leer building and are currently located in eight different buildings across campus.

In order to consolidate the program, free up space in other facilities for other academic needs, and facilitate the renovation of Van Leer, an addition is needed adjacent to the existing building. This addition will provide roughly 120,000 gross square feet of new academic and research space and will provide the necessary swing space for use during the renovations to Van Leer.
