Hinman Building Renovation

The renovation of the Hinman Building, built in 1950, is possible with the completion and occupancy of the Environmental Sciences and Technology Building. The current occupant, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences will vacate the full building (18,725 gross square feet) permitting a complete renovation without disrupting building occupants.

The proposed program occupant at this time is the School of Industrial Design of the College of Architecture. The renovation will accommodate office, lab,studio and support requirements. A small component of the facility will be used for technology equipped classrooms. The project will be completed in a single phase. The scope of work that is anticipated for the phase is described below.

  • Building Stabilization; envelope repair; roof repair; masonry tuck pointing and sealing; window repair/replacement (as required).
  • Demolition / Abatement: hazardous material abatement as required; demolish interior non-structural partitions; remove obsolete systems and equipment; etc. (subject to final program analysis and space plan)
  • Correct accessibility issues
  • Patch, repair and strengthen the structure and fill floor openings, as required.
  • Partition as required
  • Replace/upgrade building systems
  • Provide new elevator, as required/feasible
  • Provide appropriate data and communications technologies
