- Plans from 1888-89 Annual Catalogue.
Note the detailed legend of tools and equipment.
"The workshops have been equipped with machinery and tools from the
best makers,
and of the latest patterns, at a cost of over twenty thousand dollars.
In pursuance of the fundamental idea of giving the student access
to the best machinery and experimental knowledge of the best methods
of mechanical work, the commission have put the mechanical department
on a footing with the most approved and complete shops in the country,
and hardly any process requiring fine material and accurate workmanship
is beyond its capacity."

The Shop building had been destroyed by fire by this time of this

"The Fire. On the 21st of April, 1892, the workshops of
the institution were destroyed by fire. These are now in
process of re-erection, and will be ready for use, with full
equipment of tools and machinery, by the opening of the session,
September 28, 1892."
Newspaper articles about the fire.
- Plans from 1892-93 Annual
Catalogue. Plans for the rebuilt shop building are depicted for the
first time in this year's catalogue. From the 1896-97 Catalogue:
"With the insurance on the building and machinery, and additional
appropriation made by the Legislature, the building and machinery
were at once replaced, and the result of the misfortune was in the
end most beneficial, as both building and equiments are superior
to what were destroyed."
